TRAINING TOPIC
INSTABASE TOUR

MODULES
SpinHab - Four trusses from a central motor. Four swivel chambers at the end of each truss. 11 RPMs to provide a full gee. Crew can do one of ten different sedentary activities (e.g. screen time) that doesn't involve moving the head. Therefore no Coriolis effects. Chambers tall enough to allow for two people to stand with the force vector down through their feet. On average, people are on their feet for four hours per day. So crew on the Moon and Mars could be in the centrifuge doing sedentary activities for two hours in the morning and two hours in the evening.

BedHab - Four bedroom for an Initial Permanent Crew of eight.

BathHab - Waste processing in the hallway in the floor outside of the BathHab.

LivingHab - Two floors. Upstairs is Living Room. Downstairs is the Kitchen. If we were to redo the LivingHab we would have made it larger and more of a dome than a sphere in order to provide more floor space for the kitchen.

ArtsHab - Would serve as an exercise room but the fitness equipment could be moved into the LivingHab when there are performances in the ArtsHab. Arts include: Fine arts (e.g. painting, drawing, sculpture), Literary Arts (e.g. poetry and short stories), Performing Arts (e.g music such as string quartet, gymnastics, and dance). The room is shaped like an observatory so that a dancer or gymnast could get a run across the floor and then continue running up the walls and even across the ceiling before falling down.

WorkHab - Has four wings.
     - Machine Area (large eastern wing) - An outdoor metallurgy area would produce metals which would be brought into the WorkHab through an airlock. Machining could include pouring into molds, lathes, CNC machines, sheet metal working, and 3D printers.
     - Chemistry Area (southern wing) - Robots would harvest organic and inorganical chemicals from the environment, bring them in. The Chemist would then process these resources into chemicals of use in the growing base.
     - BioGeo Area (western wing) - Study animals would be kept in cages here. Inorganic rocks would be processed here.
     - Robotics Area (northern wing) - Parts from the Machine Area would be brought to here and integrated with imported electronics.

GreenHabs - Two large GreenHabs sized to meet the nutritional needs of the Initial Permanent Crew of eight. Plants would be grown in 3D with LEDs hung from the ceiling providing magenta lighting throughout the volume of growth area. There would be a large amount of trays, tubing, pumbs, fans, etc. There would be internal sections to allow for different lighting, temperature, humidity, and CO2 levels.
