CURRENT DISPLAYS
Sim Suit
The Northern California chapter of the Mars Society was gracious enough to lend us one of their sim suits. They are the main organization that designs and supplies simulation space suits for the Mars Desert Research Station in Utah. They are currently designing a more advanced simulation suit.

Telepresence
A certain percentage of wealthy people would like to play their role in history by being among the first people to settle down on the Moon and Mars. But, how about their spouses? Will they be willing to cut ties with loved ones on Earth when the speed of light round trip to Mars is 14 minutes? You won't be able to carry on a regular conversation. So, it may be that some couples will choose to settle on the Moon instead specifically because the spouse want to be able to have near real-time dialogue with loved ones back on Earth.

Here is our illustration of how that could work. There exists now telepresence equipment that looks a lot like this illustration. So, imagine a wealthy grandparent has moved to the Moon yet wants to be telepresent at her grandchildren's graduations, weddings, and holidy get-togethers. She would communicate through her laptop camera on the Moon while her loved ones would see her face in the screen on the telepresence equipment on Earth. She could click to move forward and turn right or left. Communications would be just a bit jerky with the time delay but certainly tolerable.

In the near future, we hope to set up the time delay software so that future visitors to the Space Fair could communicate between the telepresence tablet and a friend at a nearby lap top but with the 2.6 seconds time delay.

FUTURE DISPLAYS
Cutout
A simple exhibit would be to purchase an astronaut cutout.

Coolest Suit
Our Moon-Mars Analogue Base (MMAB) will be development and settlement-oriented as opposed to exploration-oriented. As such, most of our focus will be on developing the capabilities within the InstaBase rather than conducting simulations of scientific exploration outdoors. None-the-less, an Initial Permanent Base will still be a location from which scientific explorations will be launched.

So, as we think about what sort of sim suit we'd like to have, we scoured the Internet to find what we think is a very cool-looking suit. Here is what we came across. We are hoping that someone will be willing to design and construct a costume to look as close to this image as possible. We can provide the funding for the materials.

Imagine how interested journalists would be to write up about our work at the MMAB if they could include a picture of simulated crew wearing suits that look like this.

Delayed Communications
We are working to effectively demonstrate what it would be like to be at a laptop on the Moon and yet telepresent on a tablet screen on a telepresence robot on Earth. It would allow the visitors to experience what it would be like to be virtually present with loved ones despite there being a 2.6 second speed-of-light time delay.
